ATHENS AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

THE MUSEUM

Renovations Completed

BUILDING RENOVATION COMPLETED: When the Society purchased the former "Brunner Building" in 2012, it took on a major project to revitalize and renovate one of the oldest buildings in Athens with a long history going back to when Athens was founded.Early on it was decided that the aim would be to restore the building (as close as possible) to what it looked like in the 1800s when Athens was just getting started. A detailed computer drawing was then made based on actual historical pictures of the building. A contractor was hired to do the work which included the complete removal and replacement of windows, doors and siding and the repair of the roof. After much hard work the building renovation was successfully completed. The above picture is of the building as it looks now.

INTERIOR RENOVATION COMPLETED : After completing the exterior renovation of the building we then concentrated our efforts in totally renovating the interior of the building. The major improvements include replacing of outdated inefficient heating and cooling system, constructing a new barrier free bathroom, completely insulating the building, upgrading the electrical system, installing new energy efficient lightning, new flooring, partitioning the building and constructing wall mounted display cases. We are pleased to note that the renovation of the building resulted in Athens now having a small but unique beautiful museum to display our collections of historical artifacts possessed by the Society.
